Related California celebrates construction milestone at 420 Mendocino Avenue in downtown Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa, CA – Yesterday, Related California and the City of Santa Rosa celebrated the Topping Out of a highly-anticipated, market-rate housing development at 420 Mendocino Avenue in the heart of Downtown Santa Rosa.

Located on an approximately two-thirds acre site at the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Fifth Street, the new eight-story, 168-unit building includes a mix of thoughtfully-designed studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments, with ground floor retail that will include a new restaurant. Residential amenities will feature a co-working lounge, state-of-the-art fitness center, club room with panoramic views of the City and an adjoining outdoor roof deck, a landscaped paseo that leads to the lobby entrance, and 100 on-site parking spaces for residents.

“It’s exciting to see this development one step closer to providing much-needed housing in the North Bay area,” said Gino Canori, President of Related California. “It has been a pleasure working collaboratively with the City of Santa Rosa, as well as our funding and regional partners to reach this milestone, and we look forward to welcoming residents soon.”

A five-minute walk to Old Courthouse Square and Downtown’s vibrant, growing collection of restaurants along Fourth Street and in Railroad Square; 420 Mendocino Avenue is also well-served by public transit.

“This development will help our city achieve its goal of providing all types of high-quality housing while creating a new destination in our iconic Downtown," said Santa Rosa City Manager Maraskeshia Smith.  "I look forward to joining Related California and our other wonderful project partners back on-site next year to celebrate the grand opening with the community."

The development was initially approved by the City in 2018 with Related California named as the development partner and David Baker Architects as the principal designer. Funding partners for 420 Mendocino Avenue include the City of Santa Rosa, East West Bank, Preferred Bank, and RED Housing Fund. Construction began in March 2023 immediately following the closing of construction financing, with completion projected in spring 2025.

“420 Mendocino’s prime location and intentional design add to the city’s vibrant core while setting set a new benchmark for residential living in Santa Rosa,” said Matt Keiper, Vice President of Related California.  “We are proud to work with a housing-forward city like Santa Rosa on this development alongside our project team.”
